Where to Buy Second-Hand Bikes in Cambridge (by a Local!)
LOOKING FOR SOMEWHERE TO BUY SECOND-HAND BIKES IN CAMBRIDGE?
Then you’re in the right place, because I live in, and cycle around, Cambridge.
I’ve bought second-hand bikes in Cambridge, and I’ve had to visit many of the bike shops around town for repairs.
This guide is for you if you are looking for the best second-hand bike shop in Cambridge, or somewhere for cheap used bikes.
1. University Cycles
📍 University Cycles, 9 Victoria Ave, Cambridge CB4 1EG

University Cycles is a pretty unimposing place and is easy to miss. There’s no website as this is just a one-man operation that has been going on for decades.
The owner offers a very reasonably priced service and is one of the cheapest bike shops you’ll find in town.
My wife bought a bike from here a few years ago for under £100 that is still in good condition and going strong, and the owner threw in lights for free.

This isn’t the place to go if you want an electric bike, but it’s ideal for basic city bikes, particularly of the type that get passed around between university students.

2. Lensfield Road Cycles (Feb 2024 Update: They are closing down!)
📍 69-71 Lensfield Rd, Cambridge CB2 1EN

🚲 Website
One of the largest second-hand bike shops in Cambridge, Lensfield Road Cycles is perfect if you want plenty to choose from.
They also do good quality repairs, and you can get new bikes from them if required.

3. Kingsway Cycles
📍 8 City Rd, Cambridge CB1 1DP

🚲 Website
A small but mighty cycle shop tucked away behind the Grafton Centre and near the Free Press pub, Kingsway Cycles has a great reputation for second-hand bikes among students.
They have a very large range and very fair prices.

4. The Bike Shed
📍 26 Mill Rd, Petersfield, Cambridge CB1 2AD

A decently-sized second-hand bicycle shop down Mill Road, The Bike Shed always has a good range of used bikes, plus has some available to hire.
They cover pretty much any type of bike, with stock constantly changing, so this is a good shout if you’re looking for something a little different.

5. Barton Bicycles
📍 82 King St, Cambridge CB1 1LN

🚲 Website
With a wide variety of bikes for sale and online booking for servicing, Barton Bicycles is an excellent choice if you are down King Street, with a decent number of types of used bikes for sale.

6. Gregg’s Cycles
📍 186 Mill Rd, Cambridge CB1 3LP

For an old-school approach to bike selling, then try Gregg’s Cycles.
He has a pretty good selection of bikes, including mountain bikes and city bikes, but you will definitely not find electric bikes here.
It’s possible to get a really good deal here, but it helps if you are able to thoroughly check the bike yourself before purchase.

Dear Tim Daniels. Thank you for useful info about used bikes in local shops. I injured my arm and can no longer use my upright cycle, so have been looking for a tricycle. Wonder if you happen to know which of the shops here might have one or know of somebody with one for sale? Many Thanks for your help Suzanne
Sorry for the late reply but I believe all of these shops will stock tricycles or know where best to go to get one.
