7 Top Bike Shops in Cambridge for Repairs (by a Local!)

LOOKING FOR THE TOP BIKE SHOPS IN CAMBRIDGE?

Then you’re in the right place, because I live in, and cycle around, Cambridge.

I bought a bike here, and I’ve had to visit many of the bike shops around town for repairs.

This guide is for you if you are looking for bike repair in Cambridge, or somewhere to buy a cargo/Dutch bike or an electric bike.

1. Life On A Bike

📍 171 Mill Rd, Cambridge CB1 3AN

🚲 Website

A small, independent bike shop on Mill Road, Life on a Bike has more modern customer service than other bike shops in Cambridge, along with a comprehensive list of prices for servicing and repairs on their website.

They also sell bikes but are best for any servicing you might need, as their prices are among the most reasonable in the city, and you will be kept informed of exactly how long your repair is going to take.

2. University Cycles

📍 University Cycles, 9 Victoria Ave, Cambridge CB4 1EG

University Cycles is a pretty unimposing place and is easy to miss. There’s no website as this is just a one-man operation that has been going on for decades.

The owner offers a very reasonably priced service and is one of the cheapest bike shops you’ll find in town.

My wife bought a bike from here a few years ago for under £100 that is still in good condition and going strong, and the owner threw in lights for free.

This isn’t the place to go if you have an electric bike, but you can get a good service at a reasonable price for any other kind of bike, and I would be happy to return.

Primo Cycles are the people to go to if you want a cargo bike or electric bike in Cambridge, with a wide variety of bikes for sale and repairs available for all of them.

This is a larger shop that is much more similar to the chain stores but is actually independently owned.

They have a smaller store in the Grand Arcade, but their Jesus Lane is much easier to access by bike.

A small but mighty cycle shop tucked away behind the Grafton Centre and near the Free Press pub, Kingsway Cycles has a great reputation for quick and reasonably priced repairs, plus they have a good line of second-hand bikes.

If you’re in the centre of town and need a quick repair, this is one of your best bets.

5. Townsends Light Blue Cycle Centre

📍 72 Chesterton Rd, Cambridge CB4 1EP

🚲 Website

Just around the corner from University Cycles, Townsends is a much bigger operation with a good line of electric bikes for sale.

You can get basically everything from Townsends, plus book your bike in for a repair, which is particularly helpful for larger electric and Dutch bikes that some other bike shops are less likely to help with.

As the oldest bicycle shop in Cambridge, you know that you’re going to get great service at Townsends. They also sell their own line of Light Blue bikes, if you want a real memento of Cambridge life!

With a wide variety of bikes for sale and online booking for servicing, Barton Bicycles are an excellent choice if you are down King Street, with a good reputation for quick repairs.

7. Cycle King

📍 197-199 Mill Rd, Cambridge CB1 3AN

🚲 Website

Cycle King is one of those chain cycle shops, so you know exactly what you’re getting: plenty of bikes for sale and servicing for all models available.

As with other chain stores, what you get in availability of services you lose with a higher price than the independent local shops. Personally, I would always try the independent shops first, but Cycle King has everything you need if the local shops don’t.
